This weekend brings the first Friday in June and we all know what that means...it’s rodeo time y’all! This Friday will kick off the 78th Annual Llano County Open Rodeo and Parade. The first weekend in June means many things to many people around here. I know growing up in Llano rodeo weekend was always something I looked forward to. It means laughing and dancing with family and old friends. It means making new friends, enjoying great food and watching some extremely talented cowboys and cowgirls give it their all doing what they do best. It’s hard to believe it all flies by in just one weekend!
Friday night at 7pm the fun and excitement will begin. The Rodeo Queen contestants will be introduced during the rodeo, they will also be selling raffle tickets for our 50/50 drawing to the spectator’s. There will be a silent auction set up to benefit our scholarship program with donated items from local merchants to a roping school from one of our own world champions.
This year the rodeo brings Bareback, Steer Wrestling, Breakaway Roping, Tied Down Roping, Saddle Bronc, Team Roping, Barrell Racing and of course Bull Riding. Don’t forget to come out Saturday morning at 10am to see all the unique and colorful floats that will be in this years annual rodeo parade. This year’s rodeo parade route will be beginning at Ford Street with horses entering from HWY 71 / HWY 16 Junction and all floats and other entries from W. Llano Street, on to the Courthouse, left on Main Street, and then left on Berry Street.
Make sure you stick around after the parade. Boy Scout Troop 301 will be hosting the 30th Annual BBQ Lunch from 10:45am – 1:00pm on the Courthouse Square. BBQ tickets may be purchased in advance from the Boy Scouts or at the Llano Chamber of Commerce. This is the annual Boy Scout fundraiser for Summer Camp so bring a lawn chair or pick up a plate “to go”. Tickets will be sold in advance for $8.00 and $10.00 at the Courthouse event.
The excitement will continue Saturday with the Rodeo Royalty’s fashion show and ice cream/dessert social from 1pm – 3pm at the Llano Community Center, admission by donation. The outfits will be furnished by The Boutique and Llano Feed & Supply in Llano, Harry’s Western Wear in San Saba, Lazy S Western Wear and Yee Haw Ranch in Fredericksburg.
Stick around because Saturday night at 7pm the rodeo is back in gear with more must-see rodeo action. Not to mention the dance following the rodeo featuring the one and only “Eddie Shell and the Not Guilties”.
The Llano County Rodeo is located almost 2 miles West of Llano on Ranch Road 152. Rodeo Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12, & kids under 6 get in free. Pre-Sale Tickets are available from Rodeo Queen Contestants.
